The MuskeCheers is a passion project for dedicated independent craft beer reviews, where opinions, feelings, evaluations, and respect are at the forefront of everything we do.
A project long in development and long overdue, The MuskeCheers aim to bring you the best reviews and news coverage of anything and everything in the world of craft beer, mead, cider and anything that might fall remotely within category. We cover what we feel like, and when we feel like it, so that you can count on us always having opinions. We do not create content for the sake of content, nor do we sell out do so.
The MuskeCheers is a group of independent reviewers who collectively provide insights into our world. You might not always agree with our take on things, and that’s fine. We might not even agree with our own take, either, but that’s the beauty of independent reviews. You get multiple opinions on the same platform, and we get to interact with you.
Welcome to The MuskeCheers.
Interested in learning more about the reviewers that grace The MuckeCheers with their opinions and dedication to their craft?
We have collected all our authors and contributors on a seperate page for easy reference.
The reviewers might not approach all beverages the same way. This can be due to time constraints, portion sizes or the difference between sitting at home, being out and about, or beer served at an event. We have decided to categorise our reviews so you always know if a review is a fast review, full-scale critical approach, or events. We have chosen to do so to accommodate the different review styles of our reviewers and the way they approach their beer. After all, if we don’t have fun collecting our thoughts and opinions, you probably won’t enjoy reading them. One thing is certain though; we approach beer methodically and passionately!
Reviewing beer is no easy task, or at least we think so. Beer is more than just a beverage; it’s an experience, a craft, a piece of art and a product. We do not believe that those virtues can be evaluated objectively, and we don’t. We look at beer as holistically as we can and give a final score. We use the scale of X / 5, so you can compare with results from some of your other favourite beer resources. Our reviewers might define that scale differently than you, so take a look at our Reviewers page to learn more about the individual reviewer.
Often our reviewers interact with beer in ways that fall under three categories, so we’ve categorised the reviews accordingly: Full Review, Fast Review, and Event Review. No matter what category the review falls under you can be certain, that the reviewer treats the beer with the respect and attention to detail that it deserves.
Full Review –
This is the full MuskeCheers treatment. The reviewer has spent plenty of time with the beer insuring that any aspect of the beer does not go unnoticed. Glassware, serving temperature, development in the glass, sensory descriptions, the full nine yards. The thoughts and oppinions of the reviewer are apparent and laid out in full detail.
Fast Review –
This is still the MuskeCheers treatment, but condensed to a fast and short review. The review could be written based on notes taken by the reviewer, length dictated by time available, or simply that a fast review is more fitting for the review style of whomever does the review. Anyways, you can be sure that only the length of the review is what has changed, and not the method of review.
Event Review –
The beer is served at a tasting or other event that impacts the reviewers ability to critically assess the beer. An event review could mean the reviewer has shared the pour with multiple people and therefore not been able to let the beer develop in the glass, or at a tasting where beer is served in short intervals. The reviewers do their best to assess the beer, but might be somehow hindered in doing a full review.
The MuskeCheers focus primarily on craft beer. However, the passions of The MuskeCheers lie not exclusively in barley but in any fermentation. Craft and retail beer, mead and cider are all embraced, or anything that might fall within category. Should we gain enough requests from you, dear readers, about wine and experienced reviewers that could fill that role, then we might add wine reviews to the website.
We also gladly accept any homebrews that are sent our way. Should you wish to get our oppinion on your homebrew, go to the contact page, and we will figure something out. We promise a full review on any homebrew that comes our way. Should you wish to send more than one bottle/can then we will gather multiple reviewers so you as a brewer can get multiple oppinions on your brew. Our rules for homebrew are the same as for any sponsored reviews or partner programs, with an added detail: you must provide a recipe for the brew being reviewed and accept that we upload it to this site. The recipe must be detailed enough that anyone can follow it and get a similar result, but small details and process tricks that you as a brewer would consider “trade secrets” can be left out. This could be water profile targets, enzyme additives or how you prepared the barrel for you homebrew award winning barrel aged moccachino chocolate imperial pastry stout.
Part of The MuskeCheers’ identity is that we are independant reviewers with independant oppinions. While we embrace the possibility of sponsors and partnerships, there are some fundamental elements of The MuskeCheers that we do not allow sponsors or partners to have an impact on. Our reviews will always remain our reviews, including the oppinions of the reviewer. Editorial and creative license remains at MuskeCheers and the reviewers. That means, no sponsor or partner will ever have an impact on the review, nor will they see the review before publishing. Part of any partnership or sponsor deal is that there will be no compromise on the review and it will not be taken down if the review or score is not to the liking of the sponsor or partner. A sponsor or partner may provide a beer for review, glassware for use or other relevant product or service, and we at The MuskeCheers will always clearly state if anything we do is sponsored or done through a partnership.
We will always keep a full list of sponsors and partners here.
